Steps of Execution

This refers to inspection of lower gastrointestinal tract with a flexible endoscope with or without biopsy, photography removal of polyps and injection treatment diagnostic tool for inspecting the colon and rectum, helping detect early signs of colorectal cancer, polyps, and other GI issues

Preparation

Two days before the procedure patient is advised to eat low fibre diet: no fruits or vegetables. No fibre supplements such as fybogel.

Patient is also advised to organize for a driver or somebody to come with on the procedure day. You should not come alone. You should not drive at all on the day of the procedure.

THE DAY BEFORE THE COLONOSCOPY PROCEDURE:

  • Eat a soft diet only such as rice, mashed potatoes, soup or sphaghetti. No fruits or vegetables. Avoid brown porridge, uji or ugali.
  • No solid food after 9pm
  • Preparation medication is given to clear out the bowel and instructions given on how to take it
  • Arrive to the endoscopy unit 1 hour before the scheduled time to allow for registration and adequate preparation for the procedure.

Results & Recovery:

  • Initial findings are shared immediately.
  • Biopsy results take a few days.
  • Patients should avoid heavy meals and alcohol for a day.
